It takes a lot of courage to release the familiar and seemingly secure, to embrace the new.
But there is no real security in what is no longer meaningful.
There is more security in the adventurous and exciting, for in movement there is life, and in change there is power.

Inside of a dog, it's too dark to read."

Thoughts on Giving Advice :)

I always pass on good advice. It's the only thing to do with it. It is never any use to oneself.
                                                                                 ~Oscar Wilde

The best advice is this : Don't take advice and don't give advice . ~ author unknown

It is more easy to be wise for others than for ourselves. ~ Francois Duc de La Rochefoucauld.

The people sensible enough to give good advice are usually sensible enough to give none.
EDEN PHILLPOTTS

What's wrong with advice ?
Advice is often a basic insult to the intelligence of the other person. It implies a lack of confidence in the capacity of the person with the problem, to undersand and cope with his or her own difficulties.
Advice is like cooking--you should try it before you feed it to others.
CROFT M. PENTZ,

To offer a man unsolicited advice is to presume that he doesn't know what to do or that he can't do it on his own.

  1. Nice quotes! I like "Advise is like cooking" line. Should try oneself before feeding to others.

  2. Didn't you have something on here along the lines of 'comments welcome, advice not so much?' I thought of that a couple of days ago after reading your entry 'Today.' Someone had responded in what she must have thought was a supportive and encouraging way but the unsolicited advice came off as condescending and patronizing. Your response was typically classy. I tried to post my own comment, about how I admired you for your courage, not least in sharing your vulnerability. You don't need the 'join a church group for friends' suggestion.Being alone is not the same as lonely - and you've had in your life a love the depth and richness of which few have known. I lost my comment in the posting process - hope it goes through this time.

  3. Sharon, yes ! That is exactly what it said .. then I started to feel bad, I might sound mean to anyone who actually just wanted to leave a comment. I am very touchy these days and I do resent someone who actually does not know me thinking to give me advice.
And someone who knows me would be rolling on the ground laughing if I said I was going to join a church group or any other kind of group.
I am so touched at your kindness and understanding, thank you so very much.
I don't think I am courageous at all. I have wanted to just lie in bed and never get up. but the cats won't let me. I was smart to get the cats. They keep me going. And kind comments like yours.
    besos.
